PRIVACY
What leaves your computer, and why.
Grave Benders sends as little as it can. This page lists everything the game and this site send, who receives it, and how to switch it off or have it deleted.
Nullsmith Interactive makes Grave Benders and runs nullsmith.net. Write to team@nullsmith.net about anything on this page.
THE GAME
Grave Benders
Gameplay data, only if you say yes
The first time you start the game, it asks whether it may share anonymous data about your nights. If you choose Share, or later turn on Settings › Gameplay › Share gameplay data, it sends these to Unity Analytics after each night: the burial ground, how many were in the crew, whether you hosted, how the night ended, the money brought home, how many of the crew were caught and by what, whether the quota was met, how long the night lasted, whether the Grave Hollow rose, and whether you play the demo or the full game. Unity adds the start and end of each session and basic technical details: the game's version, your operating system and hardware, and the country your connection comes from.
None of it carries your name, your Steam ID or your voice. Unity tells installations apart by a random number made on your PC. We use the data to balance the game.
To stop: turn off Share gameplay data in Settings › Gameplay. To erase it: Delete my data, on the same page, asks Unity to delete what was sent from your PC and stops the sharing.
Crash reports
When the game crashes or hits an error, Unity's diagnostics service receives a technical report: the error and where in the game's code it happened, the game's version, and your PC's hardware and operating system. It carries no name, Steam ID or account. These reports are how we find and fix broken builds, so they're sent whether or not you share gameplay data.
Bug reports, only when you press Send
The REPORT A BUG form in the pause menu sends, through Unity's user reporting service:
What you wrote: the kind of problem, your summary and your description. A screenshot of the game as it was when you opened the form, unless you turn off Attach screenshot. The end of the game's log file, with your Windows user name, Steam name, Steam ID, crew name, folder paths, IP addresses and email addresses removed before it leaves your PC. Your PC's specs (operating system, processor, memory, graphics card and driver), the game's version and where in the game you were.
A copy of each report is saved on your PC first, in the game's BugReports folder, so nothing is lost if you're offline. We keep a report for as long as we need it to fix the problem. REPORT A BUG on the title screen opens the game's Steam discussions instead, where Steam's rules apply and posts are public.
Playing online
To host or join a crew online, the game signs in to Unity's online services anonymously, with no account and no name, and connects the crew through Unity Relay, so nobody has to open ports. As with any online game, your IP address reaches those servers. A LAN or direct game sends it straight to the other players.
Voice chat travels between the crew through Unity Vivox while you play. Grave Benders never records it, and we never receive it. The crewmates in your session see your Steam name.
Steam
Your Steam account, purchases, playtime and achievements, and the game's Steam discussions, are handled by Valve under Steam's privacy policy. The game reads your Steam name to show it to your crew.
On your PC
Your saves, your settings and the game's log stay on your PC. Nothing reads them but the game, except the cleaned end of the log in a bug report you choose to send.
THIS SITE

No cookies, no trackers, no analytics. Nothing on these pages loads from another company's servers: the fonts, pictures and clips all come from this site. Like any web host, ours (Hostinger) keeps server logs of requests (the address that asked, the time and the page) to keep the site running and safe.
The mailing list opens a ready-made email to team@nullsmith.net. We keep your address only to send news from Nullsmith, and remove it whenever you ask. When you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can answer it.
Links to Steam and YouTube take you to their sites, where their own policies apply.
YOUR SAY
Your choices
Sharing gameplay data is your choice, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings. Crash reports are sent because we need them to keep the game working. Bug reports go only when you send one.
You can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Write to team@nullsmith.net. Gameplay data is tied only to the random number on your PC, so the game's Delete my data is the quickest way to have it erased. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
The services that receive data for us are Unity Technologies (analytics, crash and bug reports, online play and voice chat), Valve (Steam) and Hostinger (this site). They may handle it in other countries, under their own safeguards.
Grave Benders is a horror game and isn't made for children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
